Here is an overview of the members in the consortium behind the PREMIUM_EU project, with a brief intro and a presentation of their tasks in the project.
The Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research
The Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research (MPIDR) is world leading in the field of digital and computational demography. Traditional sources for demographic research are increasingly insufficient to describe today’s complex demographic behavior. People are using new media in the digital era, which comes with an added potential for measuring demographic behavior. Premium_EU will significantly increase our knowledge on the potential of social media usage for measuring mobility, and combining this new source of information to existing sources. The MPIDR is uniquely equipped for this task.
Statistics Denmark
Statistics Denmark (DST) is the official Danish Statistical Office. The main task of Statistics Denmark is to collect and analyse data in order to produce and disseminate official statistics. The Unit for Demographic Statistics produces all official population statistics in Denmark based on data from administrative registers. DST leads the work with thematic studies in the project and is responsible for the tasks related to the model training and optimization, as well as the study on migration and residential segregation in European cities.
Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences / Netherlands Interdisciplinary Demographic Institute
NIDI builds and maintains an international knowledge infrastructure of population issues to address the challenges that demographic developments pose to individuals and society. NIDI is responsible for developing the migration scenario narratives on global and regional levels that are a major part of the project.
The Centre for Demographic Study, Autonomous University of Barcelona
The leading demographic research centre in Spain and one of the main demographic institutions in Europe. One of its main thematic research areas is Globalisation, Migrations and Space, with a special focus on internal migration processes and depopulation of rural regions in Spain. Within Premium_EU the CED will be engaged in the Spanish case study, on internal mobility.
Nordregio
Nordregio is an international research institute in the broad field of regional studies and planning, established by the Nordic Council of Ministers. Nordregio focuses on gathering, assessing, harmonizing and mapping all relevant data that is needed for the project; as well as on communicating and disseminating project results.
Cracow University of Economics
Cracow University of Economics (CUE) is a public university focusing on research and teaching related to economics, management and social sciences. It is one of the largest business universities in Central Europe. In the project, CUE’s role is to analyze migration patterns and residential segregation in Central and Eastern Europe.
International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis
The International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) is an independent, international research institute with National Member Organizations in Africa, the Americas, Asia, and Europe. IIASA leads the work on migration projections and is responsible for the task dealing with migration scenario narratives, as well as data collection on migrants and migration.
Oslo Metropolitan University
OsloMet is an urban university with a diverse academic profile and a clear international orientation. Through the research they conduct, OsloMet seeks to respond to the needs of society and the labour market. In the case of PREMIUM_EU, particularly insights on Norwegian population projections, and its demographic consequences, especially in remote regions. OsloMet will contribute to setting up the Dashboard, and integrating the various components together.
Hacettepe University institute of Population Studies
Hacettepe University Institute of Population Studies (HUIPS) was founded in 1967 and education and research activities are carried out within two departments, namely the Department of Demography, and the Department of Social Research Methodology. HUIPS is the only Turkish academic institution graduate education in the field of demography through MA and PhD programs in Demography. Migration and integration issues are among their focal research areas, as for instance shown by their research on integration of Afghan and Syrian refugees. The team will participate in the case study of Turkish mobility, and focus on the sending regions, with special emphasis on return migrants.
The Hanze University of Applied Sciences
Located in the North of the Netherlands, which is characterized by regional population decline, one of the key research themes of the university is the professorship 'Living Environment in Transition', which performs practice-oriented research into the living environment in the Northern Netherlands and changes therein. The main focus is on the interplay between demographic change, livability and regional development. HUAS has a lot of experience in coordinating research projects with multiple partners, and co-leads the project, but is also involved in the regional case studies and policy analysis.
